Frequently Asked Questions for CleanPrettyPark Version 1.0 1) Q: Is the Pretty Park "virus" actually a virus? A: Actually, it's a worm. A worm differs from a virus in the sense that a worm propagates itself through a network (such as the internet). 2) Q: What's there to make me believe that your program isn't a trojan? I mean anyone can make a webpage look like it's legitamately destributing a virus cleaning program. Why should I believe you? A: Well, it's not. All I can tell you is that I've made this program and have made it freely available to help people. If you don't trust it, don't use it. 3) Q: My Files32.XVD has been quarantined by my Norton Antivirus as Ap01.XVD. Hence i can't run any applications at all. I tried copying back the Ap01.XVD into Files32.XVD in the c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder, but when I tried to run, say, REGEDIT I got this message "REGEDIT not a Win32 Application. A: You don't want files32.vxd on your system and that is why Norton quarantined it. Files32.vxd IS essentally the Pretty Park virus. From what I understand, Norton quarantines the file without cleaning the registry. CleanPrettyPark cleans the registry BEFORE cleaning files32.vxd from your system. This is important because Pretty Park infects your registry in such a way that files32.vxd MUST be present on your system in order to run any executables. If you are having problems running any executables, try this: 1) Boot to DOS. 2) Go to your start up folder (something like C:\WINDOWS\STARTM~1\PROGRAMS\STARTUP) 3) Copy regedit.exe from your C:\WINDOWS directory directory into this folder. 4) Reboot. 5) When windows reboots, regedit should run at startup. 6) Modify the following Registry value: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\exefile\shell\open\command and change: files32.vxd "%1" %* to: "%1" %* 7) Remove regedit.exe from the folder you copied it into in step 2. 8) Reboot. Everything should be fine now. NOTE: I've really never had time to see if this works, so if anyone tries this, please let me know. 4) Q: My computer complains I need files32.vxd. Where do I get this file? A: You don't want it. See question #3 to fix this problem. 5) Q: You say that Pretty Park is a virues but it is not doing nothing to my computer, not even my address book. A: You may have the virus. Running CleanPrettyPark will let you know. Just because you show no signs of having the virus dosn't mean bad things aren't happening if you have it. One of the virus' functions is to send the author your personal info via IRC (Internet Relay Chat) while you are online. It's expected the author monitors this IRC channel. 6) Q: I have McAfee Virues Shield so I don't think that I have the virues. Should I go head and run CleanPrettyPark? A: Short answer: couldn't hurt.
